A gown bought off the rail is a starting point, not a finished garment. We take in, let out, re-cup, re-hem, re-bone and re-balance — and we rebuild inherited gowns so a mother's or grandmother's dress can be worn again without looking borrowed.
Restoration is slower than making new. Aged silk, brittle beadwork and yellowed lace each need their own treatment before a single seam is opened.
For Paris we favour silk crêpe, corded Chantilly and structured mikado, with detachable sleeves for cool church interiors.
